It is believed that Ganga Dussehra is celebrated on the day when Ganga mata appeared on earth from Lord Shiva matted locks (jataye). This festival is dedicated to Ganga Mata, a sacred river.
Ganga Dussehra is celebrated on the Dashami (10th day) of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Jyeshtha. In 2025, Ganga Dussehra will be celebrated on 5th June (Thursday), as per the Vedic calendar.

It is said that if you take a holy dip in the Ganga River then all your sins will be washed away, purifying your soul.

Traditional Rituals
Dip in Ganga River: On this auspicious day people from different places come to take bath in Ganga or any other holy river.
Pray: Pooja is offered for both Gamga Mata and Lord Shiva of Ganga Dussehra.
Fasting: Many believe to keep fast on this day and also chant mantras for blessings.
