Jagannath Rath Yatra 2025: Date, Timings, Venue

Every year on the second day of the Shukla Paksha of Ashadh month the Rath Yatra begins from The Jagannath Temple in Puri to Gundicha Devi Temple in Mathura which is known as the Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra. There is a large crowd that visits the Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra to get a glimpse of the idol that is believed to be taken out of the temple only once at this time. 

Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra 2025 is going to start on June 27. You can witness about 4 - 5 Lakh Pilgrims at the Rath Yatra.

The Rath Yatra starts from Puri to Gundicha temple and is about 3 km and takes a couple of hours to reach. Once reached the deities stay at the temple for nine days where you are allowed to take the darshan. The return of the Yatra to Puri is called the Bahuda Yatra.

The Chariots are well decorated and painted by artists and are pulled by 50-meter-long ropes. 

In the Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra, there are three chariots which first one being Balaram's Chariot then the Goddess Subhadra’s Chariot followed by Lord Jagannath’s Chariot being pulled.

Here is the Jagannath Rath Yatra 2025 Schedule:


1. Akshaya Tritiya - April 30, 2025

Start of chariot construction (Rath Anukula).

2. Snana Purnima - June 11, 2025

Ceremonial bathing of the deities with 108 pots of sacred water (Snana Jatra).

Deities wear "Gaja Besha" (elephant attire).

3. Anavasara (Anasara) - June 13 to June 26, 2025

The deities rest in isolation due to illness from the bath.

4. Gundicha Marjana - June 26, 2025

Cleaning of Gundicha Temple by devotees.

5. Rath Yatra (Pahandi & Chariot Pulling) - June 27, 2025

Main event: Deities are taken in grand chariots from Jagannath Temple to Gundicha Temple. King of Puri performs "Chhera Panhara" (sweeping ritual).

6. Hera Panchami - July 1, 2025

Goddess Lakshmi visits Gundicha Temple searching for Lord Jagannath.

7. Sandhya Darshan - July 3, 2025

Evening darshan of deities at Gundicha Temple.

8. Bahuda Yatra - July 5, 2025

Return journey from Gundicha Temple to Jagannath Temple. Stop at Mausi Maa Temple for "Poda Pitha" offering.

9. Suna Besha - July 6, 2025

Deities are adorned with golden ornaments on their chariots.

10. Adhara Pana - July 7, 2025

Offering of a sacred sweet drink to the deities on the chariots.
