Rath Yatra 2023: Date and Venue

Every year on the second day of the Shukla Paksha of Ashadh month the Rath Yatra begins from The Jagannath Temple in Puri to Gundicha Devi Temple in Mathura which is known as the Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra. There is a large crowd that visits the Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra to get a glimpse of the idol that is believed to be taken out of the temple only once at this time. 

Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra 2023 is going to start from 20th June. You can witness about 4 - 5 Lakh Pilgrims at the Rath Yatra.

The Rath Yatra starts from Puri to Gundicha temple that is about 3 kms and takes a couple of hours to reach. Once reached the deities stay at the temple for nine days where you are allowed to take the darshan. The return of the Yatra to Puri is called the Bahuda Yatra.

The Chariots are well decorated and painted by artists and are pulled by 50-meter long ropes. 

In the Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra, there are three chariots of which first one is Balaram's Chariot then the Goddess Subhadra’s chariot followed by Lord Jagannath’s Chariot being pulled.
