Kumbh Mela 2025: Dates and Places

The Kumbh Mela is held once in every three years on a rotational basis in four different places. These four places include Haridwar, Allahabad, Nashik, and Ujjain. Thus Maha Kumbh or Purna Kumbh ka Mela happens once in every 12 years at Prayagraj in Allahabad. The Ardh Kumbh Mela is held every six years at Haridwar and Allahabad. The Kumbh Mela at Allahabad is known as the Triveni Sangam where three holy rivers Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati converge.

The Kumbh Mela is a cycle of 12 years held at 4 river - banks sites. The Kumbh ka Mela is celebrated as a ritual of diving in the holy river water along with fairs, and entertainment. The four places where Kumbh Mela is held every 3 years are Haridwar (Ganga River), Allahabad, Nashik (Godavari River) and Ujjain (Shipra River). At Allahabad is the Triveni Sangam where three holy rivers Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati converge.

How to reach Prayagraj?

  • You can take the route by air, Train, or road to reach the Kumbh Mela. 
  • Trains run on a regular basis to Prayag from where the distance to Kumbh Mela is about 3 Km. You can take Private taxis, buses and rickshaws from the railway station to reach Prayag. 
  • You can also go by foot to Kumbh ka Mela. 
  • At Prayagraj, you can take a boat to the Triveni Sangam, where the three holy rivers meet. 


  • As the Maha Khumb Mela is held every 12 years it is one of the largest festivals and involves a large crowd, and there have been many stampedes in the past. Hence, be careful in the crowd. 
  • Take care of your belongings at the Kumbh Mela as there is no guarantee of theft. 
  • If you're lost or have got separated from your group. Visit the “lost and found” camps set up at the Kumbh ka Mela in different venues for help. 
  • During the Kumbh Mela the Hotels are fully booked, so it is advised to book your stay in advance.
