One of the most famous festivals celebrated in Nagaland, North East India is the Hornbill Festival. Things to Know Before You Go
Inner Line Permit (ILP)
- Indian citizens must get an ILP to enter Nagaland (apply online easily at the official portal).
- Foreigners, including OCI holders, need a Protected Area Permit (PAP).
Weather
- December is usually cold in the Northeast, especially at the hilltop festival venue.
- Expect temperatures between 5°C to 15°C.
- Carry warm layers, especially for evenings.
Connectivity
- Mobile networks work fine in Kohima, but internet can be weak in Kisama.
- Keep some cash handy as digital payments may not work everywhere.
Local Etiquette
- Always ask before taking photos of people or rituals.
- Respect local customs and avoid loud or intrusive behavior.
- Most people are friendly and happy to pose once you ask.

There is an entry fee at The Great Hornbill Run: Senior INR 500, U-16/U-18 INR 200.
Hornbill Futsal fest entry fees is INR 2000.
How to Reach Hornbill Festival
One can reach Hornbill Festival locations through:
Flight: You can take a flight to the National airport, The Dimapur Airport, Nagaland. In case of International Flights reach Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati or Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata. From there you can take buses.
Train: You can take a train from Assam to Dimapur Railway station. For which first you need to reach Assam.
Road: You can also take private cars or cabs or Buses and travel through the National Highways that connect Nagaland to major states of India.
