Hampi Sunrise Point History
Hampi Sunrise Point is considered a sacred place. It is said to be the dwelling place of Saint Matanga in the Ramayana. This spot is said to be the place where Monkey King Bali enraged the saint by leaving the dead body of Dundhuvi, a demon. The saint cursed and forbade him from climbing the hill.
Later, Dundhuvi’s son sought revenge and drove Bali into the cave nearby. Bali’s brother, Sugreeva, closed the door after some time, believing Bali to be dead. But he wasn’t dead, though. He accused Sugreeva of treason and banished him from the kingdom.
After that, Sugreeva sought refuge on this hill. Lord Rama defeated Bali and appointed Sugreeva as the ruler of the Monkey kingdom
