Kumbhalgarh Fort History
Kumbhalgarh was initially named Machhindragarh. Maharana Kumbha built Kumbhalgarh Fort in the 15th century. Later, the name of this place was changed to Kumbhalgarh after the name of Maharana Kumbha.
Kumbhalgarh Fort was built to secure the borders of Marwar and Mewar. The construction of this fort began in 1443 and ended in 1458. A few Jain temples in this fort were built during the second century. Others were built during the reign of Maharana Kumbh.
The chief architect of the Kumbalgarh fort is Mandan. This fort is believed to be the birthplace of Maharana Pratap. Multiple check dams were built near the fort by Maharana Kumbh to store water, which was used by the people nearby for drinking and farming purposes.
